Viscotek Markets

Academic

Academic MarketThe academic market has been Viscotek’s fastest growing market for the last five years and our largest market for the last three years.

Historically focused on Materials Characterization, Polymer Science, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, our academic scope has grown to include the departments of Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology and the medical centers as the academic environment has changed, our product lines have expanded, and our applications expertise has increased.

Viscotek technologies are now found in most major and mid-major US, European and International academic institutions and our presence continues to expand, a fact which bodes well for our future in this critical market.

Industrial MarketIndustrial

Viscotek’s industrial business is large and varied and includes companies in the agricultural, adhesives, elastomers, food, petrochemical, plastics and specialty chemical markets.

Our Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) products are found in most industrial R&D and Analytical laboratories where the information content of this technique is critical to polymer production and analysis, and our Dilute Solution Viscosity (DSV) instruments are focused in QA/QC where solution viscosity is often required as a product release specification on the Certificate of Analysis. In recent years Viscotek’s industrial market has expanded to include Process Control as Flow Injection Polymer Analysis (FIPA) has extended our detector technology to include at-line and on-line applications.

Biopharmaceutical MarketBiopharmaceutical

The biopharmaceutical market, sometimes referred to as Life Sciences, includes small, medium and large companies in the biotech and pharmaceutical arenas. Our technologies have long been recognized as essential to the characterization of natural and synthetic polymers and biopolymers in applications for targeted drug delivery, sustained release, and biomedical devices.

However, our presence in the biopharmaceutical market expanded dramatically as companies recognized our unique and proprietary ability to characterize proteins in terms of their absolute molecular weight, molecular size, and conformation, and our ability to detect and quantify protein aggregation. Traditionally located in core analytical and formulations, our technologies are now found in crystallography laboratories where we provide quick-screening and high-throughput capabilities.

Government MarketGovernment

No stranger to the Government market, Viscotek instrumentation can be found in the departments of the Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as major governmental research institutions such as the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Health.

We also have placements at all the premier governmental laboratories such as Sandia National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Molecular Foundry and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Taken as a whole, it’s easy to see that Viscotek technology plays a major role in government research and development efforts on all fronts.

Complete Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) / Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) systems for the characterization of natural and synthetic polymers, proteins, conjugates and excipients. Integrated Triple and Tetra Detector Arrays (TDAs) featuring Low Angle Light Scattering (LALS) detectors, four capillary differential viscometer detectors, refractometers and UV/VIS detectors; in a single experiment, obtain absolute molecular weight, molecular size, intrinsic viscosity, conformation, branching, aggregation and copolymer composition. Flow Injection Polymer Analysis (FIPA) for fast, accurate and precise average molecular weight, size and intrinsic viscosity in routine QA/QC and process control. Automated Dilute Solution Viscosity (DSV) systems provide relative, inherent, and intrinsic viscosity.
